Heterotopic gastrointestinal cyst of oral cavity : A case report

Abstract
Heterotopic islands of gastrointestinal mucosa have been observed throughout the entire gastrointestinal tract, from the oral cavity to the rectum, more commonly described in the duodenum, gallbladder, common bile duct, jejunum, Meckel's
diverticulum,
ileum, appendix, colon and rectum. Heterotopic gastrointestinal cysts of the oral cavity are extremely rare lesion. Although to our knowledge, only 29 cases of oral lesion have been reported to date in the world literature.
We report a 23-year old male with a heterotopic gastrointestinal cyst in the mouth floor. The mass has been presented since birth and grown slowly without pain. The mass was removed with conservative surgical excision. The patient's postoperative
course
was uneventful and the follow-up to date shown no recurrence. The clinical and histopathological features of this rare lesion are presented with literature review.
